Weddings are expensive. To cut down on costs you may be asking yourself, “Do I really need engagement photos?” Good photography is worth every penny. I promise you won’t regret your beautiful photos. I encourage all of my couples to take advantage of an engagement shoot and typically include it in my wedding packages.

In this post, we’ll cover:
➸ Why engagement photos are important.
➸ When you should take them.
➸ Where you should take them.
Why do I need engagement photos?
Engagement shoots are important for a few reasons.
1. It’s the perfect opportunity to get to know your photographer, how he/she works, and get out all the awkward poses and nervous jitters before your wedding day. When your big day rolls around, you guys will be old friends and super comfortable with eachother.
2. It gives you an opportunity to have professional photos not in your wedding attire. Many couples use photos for a custom guest book, save-the-dates or photos on the backside of thier wedding invitation. Some even display their engagement photos around their wedding venue as decorations.
When do I take them?
I recommend taking them immediately after booking your photographer. If you’re using them for save-the-dates or wedding invitations, take them 6-8 months in advance.
Where do I take them?
Well… this is a personal question. I recommend a place that is special to both you and your fiance. It can be the location where you first met, a trail you like to hike, Joshua Tree (Who doesn’t love those funky looking trees?!)… If you’re at a loss, I have many locations for you to choose from.
